Requirements / organisational issues

The course is part of module B of the Bachelor's program in Psychology. Successful completion of the seminar is one of the requirements to be admitted to the final examination of the module.

The requirements of the course are:

  • Completion of the online-lessons (including completion of short quizzes provided for each lesson).
  • Active participation during the course (e.g., discussion, group-work, etc.)
  • Preparing and presenting a short presentation (as a group effort).
  • Feedback on the other short presentations
  • Creating a glossary of key concepts and terms (also provided in the course)


The final list of requirements for completing the course will be announced in the first meeting/first week of the semester.

Digital teaching

Some lessons will be made available online via LMS/Moodle for preparation of individuell sessions. Please check before start of the lecture period that you are registered for the Moodle course of your seminar.

Recommended reading list

Relevant literature will be mentioned in the seminar.

Contents

The seminar focuses on the methods of biological psychology and neuroscience. Methods from the fields of

  1.     Psychophysiology
  2.     Psychoneuroimmunology
  3.     Neuroimaging

will be discussed.

The aim of the seminar is to provide an overview of the breadth of biopsychological and neuroscientific methods as psychological research methods. The seminar content provides the prerequisites for understanding and critically analyzing the methodological foundations of psychological research in many content areas. The aim is not to go into detail, but to present the variety of biological, physiological and neuroscientific methods that are applied in psychological research.

Another goal is to practice scientific communication in written form (by creating a glossary) and oral form (by preparing a short talk).
